Historians suggest that the early Chinese sent New Years messages and Egyptians recorded greetings on papyrus and had messengers deliver them to friends. Ancient Greeks are thought to have written verse in scrolls. In the Middle Ages, German’s made woodcuts bearing sentiments and messages. The first known Valentine’s card, now on display at the British Library Museum, was given in 1415.
"Giving and receiving greeting cards is a custom common to many countries and cultures. Special occasions or celebrations of life events such as birthdays, anniversaries, marriage, graduations, and religious holidays are recognized with a card."
